Bush's
new proposed budget is out. I definitely don't trust the media to examine it accurately, and usually the only people who discover the hidden outrageous cuts are hard-working Congressional staffers, who typically find them at the very last minute.
So let's lend them a hand. Bush's 2006 budget is here. Bush's 2005 budget is here. I know that this is a fairly unappealing and boring task, but I think it's important.
Now, I am definitely not a budget guru. In fact, I'm not even sure if the second link is the right basis for comparison. (Is that Bush's proposed budget for that year, or was it the actual budget that we wound up with?) But let me know if you think this is a worthy idea - and if you do, let's get to work.
Update [2005-2-7 14:16:56 by DavidNYC]: Comparing Bush's proposed FY2006 budget with his proposed FY2005 budget (which I have linked above) doesn't really make much sense. We need to be comparing it with the actual 2005 budget. This link provided by JennyLyn is a good start for examining the 2005 budget. If you want to start crunching any numbers, you'll want to look at the far-right column titled "Public Laws."
Update [2005-2-7 18:27:58 by DavidNYC]: There is now a DKosopedia page which can function as our community workspace for budget number-crunching.
